Default Poor Quality Armor Textures in Outposts/Towns

I posted this thread before but wanted to post it again now GWEN has been released and some time has passed.

I have a high end computer and I want Guild Wars to look the best it can. When I look at my armor it looks great, it's very detailed and high quality, but when I view other people's armor the quality is poor.

Basically while in an outpost/town (including guild hall) your own armor is high detailed but to everyone else, your armor is low detailed and doesn't look as good as it should do (and vice versa)

Here is an example of my paragon in an outpost and again in explorable areas .My friend took these pictures with the printscreen button, saved them as high quality JPEG's in Adobe Photoshop and sent them to me. No quality has been lost during compression, they are basically bitmap files but smaller in filesize.

I want an option in the graphics options that allows people with medium and high end computers to enable high quality textures on all armor no matter the location. It has been confirmed by many people in my last thread that this will not cause any lag at all on the server since it's all done via your hard drive. If someone has a computer that isn't powerful enough to handle high quality armor textures in all areas, then they don't have to enable my propropsed idea in the options.

If you if you have objections against this (I can't see why you would) then please sign this thread and rate it.

200 people running round with high res textures is going to mess up your computer and who cares, time would be better spent else where.

Not very constructive Ghost Recon; the point is, it's not going to "mess up your computer" if you have a high end system.

It's a throwback to when GW first came out and the average player's computer wouldn't have been able to handle the increased texture load.
Remember, the average amount of RAM on videocards back when GW was first released was 128MB.

I don't know about anybody else, but I suspect that my 8800GTS with 640MB of RAM could more than handle the increased texture load from universal hi-res textures without breaking a sweat.

I've noticed this most on 15K kurzick armor. Every time I see that armor in low quality, it almost makes me cringe.

Even if my machine cannot(I'm pretty sure it could) run this feature, it would be nice to have in the future should I decide to upgrade.

For those whos machines cannot handle this - an external option to force low textures.

Thread got closed, but I managed to get it back open.

Does anyone object to this? If so, why?

Well, as long as I can turn fine textures off (rather crappy PC) I don't see any problems.

If I could mod the game so it would force high resolution textures all the time, I would, but I don't know how to and plus, I think it's against ANETs rules.

Even by modding you will not get high res textures in towns.
It's about filtering and such.

Is THAT what's happening there, I'd always wondered why my armor looks different in town. I half thought I was hallucinating.

This'd be a nice thing to see, if it's not too much trouble to implement. Obviously, it'd need to have a number of settings in the options panel so you could adjust to match your system specs.

There is nothing to discuss, this should be put in as an option.

Remember that GW can run quite well on those with bad comps. But it also runs quite well on those with good comps who would like even more graphic goodness.

There should be a toggleable setting or something, or maybe, how about players within a certain range get high res textures? No point in high res textures on someone who is 10 pixels tall from where you're standing, eh?

Ah, good idea, I didn't think of that. Yeah it doesn't make sense for people to view high res armor if they are too far away to see that person.
